PLATEFORME 10 is one of the architectural projects presented in the exhibition “Musées du XXIe siècle. Visions, ambitions, défis” designed by Art Centre Basel on the initiative of the Musées d’art et d’histoire de Genève and took place at the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Genève from 11 May to 8 October 2017.

The last few decades have seen the emergence of a large number of new museums that have helped to question the role and place of these institutions in our societies. What roles do museums assume as a result of this new context? What does their architecture reveal? Who are the initiators and what is their ambition? Finally, how do these institutions relate to the public, even though our relationship with culture is being revolutionized by the digital world?

The exhibition aims to examine this cultural phenomenon, passing through selected museums around the world. Different in their forms and ambitions, they are approached from the angle of their architecture, the economic, political and social issues they raise, but also from the perspective of their respective cultural visions.
