Victoria & Albert: Exhibition Road

London, UK

Strategically, two much needed extractions are required. At the urban scale, the courtyard provides a new entrance and activity space engaging Exhibition Road. At the exhibition masterplan scale, the temporary exhibition provides a critical missing void.

London Olympics 2012: Central Park Bridges [F06]

Two permanent bridges are linked by a narrow diagonal span over Carpenters Lock at the centre of the Olympic Park. During the Olympics a central temporary infill between the bridges accommodates the crowds. In the legacy park, two bowls are created on either side of the lock linking the upper park concourse with the lower level of towpaths and waterways.

The Grand Egyptian Museum

The site for the Grand Egyptian Museum is located at the edge of the first desert plateau between the pyramids and Cairo. It is defined by a 50m level difference, created as the Nile carves its way through the desert to the Mediterranean, a geological condition that has shaped Egypt for over 3,000 years.

Giant’s Causeway Visitors’ Centre

The Giant’s Causeway lies in Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast World Heritage Site, a landscape of cliffs formed by hexagonal basalt stones, agricultural landscapes and cliffside walks. Utilising the large difference in level across the site, two folds are created in the landscape. One, extending the line of the ridge, accommodates the building. The second, extending the level of the road, screens the car park from view.
